Our Mission
Impacting the life of a child, changing a generation
Empowering Young Lives – We are committed to feeding the hungry, providing education, and sharing God’s Word with the children of Jinja, Uganda, equipping them for a brighter future.
About us
Our project, Children of Promise, part of Light of Christ Ministries, began in January 2021 in response to an urgent need in Jinja, Uganda. Many children in Mpumudde, a low-income area of Jinja, were struggling without food or basic necessities as their families, who struggled before COVID-19, were severely impacted by the lockdowns. We started sending assistance to them and grew the organization into what it is today.

Sunday Kids' Church
Every Sunday, we welcome children from the community to our Kids’ Church, where over 60 children gather to learn about God’s Word in a fun and engaging way. Each week, we explore powerful Bible stories like Daniel, David, and Elijah, helping the kids see God's faithfulness throughout history. To deepen their understanding, we teach a new Bible verse each week, highlighting the promises they have as God’s children. Each week they are given the verse on a paper to take home and memorize. The following week, they put their knowledge to the test with exciting sword drills, competing to recite the verse the fastest..

The following week, they put their knowledge to the test with exciting sword drills, competing to recite the verse the fastest. Every 6-7 weeks, we celebrate their learning with a special games day, reinforcing the lessons in a fun and memorable way. Through teaching, scripture memorization, interactive activities and candy, we are equipping the next generation to grow in faith and confidence in God's promises.

Evening Devotions
Every evening, our staff leads the children in a time of scripture, reflection, and prayer. They also teach the Verse of the Week, helping the kids understand and memorize God’s promises. Through discussions and practical applications, the children grow in their faith and learn how to live out biblical truths. These devotions provide encouragement, strengthen their spiritual foundation, and end each day with God’s Word in their hearts.
Every Saturday, we take the kids to the field for a time of fun, teamwork, and learning through sports and games. They enjoy playing soccer and netball, and we keep things exciting by mixing in activities like capture the flag, water games, and races. Beyond just play, our staff uses these games to teach valuable life lessons—how to work together as a team, think of others before themselves, and show respect even when mistakes happen.

Uganda’s School System
The school system in Uganda operates differently from Canada. The academic year begins in early February and consists of three terms, with breaks of 2-4 weeks between each term and a longer two-month holiday over Christmas. The school year concludes in early December. Kindergarten is structured into three levels: Baby Class, Middle Class, and Top Class, each lasting one year. Primary education runs from Primary 1 to Primary 7, followed by Secondary education, which includes four compulsory years (Secondary 1-4) and an optional two additional years (Secondary 5-6). Continuing to Secondary 5 and 6 provides the necessary qualifications for university admission. School days are long and keep the children engaged. Classes begin at 7:00 AM, with breaks at 10:00 AM and lunch at 1:00 PM. Currently, we support 32 children in primary school and 5 in secondary school.

Every child deserves the dignity of clean, well-fitting clothing. Many of the children we serve in Uganda lack basic clothing and shoes, leaving them vulnerable to harsh weather and health challenges. By donating gently used or new clothes, you can help provide warmth, comfort, and confidence to these children. Your generosity is more than just material—it’s a message of love and care that reminds them they are not forgotten.

Your support can make a life-changing difference by ensuring children in Uganda have access to nutritious meals. Many children face daily hunger, which affects their ability to grow, learn, and thrive. By donating food supplies or funds, you can help us provide meals that sustain their bodies and give them the strength to focus on their education and faith. Together, we can fight hunger and bring hope to these children, one plate at a time.
